Your pregnancy is just the start of motherhood. From conception onward YOU ARE A MOTHER! During this time, it is important to surround yourself with those that are willing and able to support you in this task.
Proverbs 31: 10-31 describes the characteristics of a ‘noble woman’, and while we do not wear scarlet or need to buy fields in which to plant vineyards the sentiment rings through. My favorite lines are: A noble woman cares and provides for her family: “ She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate”. (Proverbs 31 25-31)
It is my hope that you are able to find women/people like this in your life and spend time with them, learn from them and incorporate their caring spirit and strength into your spirit. The people that we spend the most time with deeply influence our mental health and habits - in person or online. Choose your people, your tribe wisely. You will need them!
Prayer: “Heavenly Father, as I am on this journey through motherhood, help me to find those in my life who will encourage me to care for myself and my growing baby. Show me how to discern which individuals should be allowed into my birth space while I labor and welcome my baby into the world. Empower my partner so that they may support me in loving and compassionate ways. I trust in You O Lord to guide this process and bring about your will for myself, my family and this baby.”
Journal prompt:
Write down the characteristics of those people that you want to speak into your life and support you.
Write down the names of people that embody these characteristics. (It is ok to only have a couple at this point).
Write a letter, card, text, message asking the above people to help support you in this journey. They may not realize how important they are to you and this process.
As you move forward seek out others that have similar values and, if possible, don't forget to support them :)
